Røst week 39 (with a small detour)

As this week came up with bad weather prognoses, we took the opportunity to go to the mainland to see the famous bird of the month: the Long-legged Buzzard (ørnvåk) at Hamarøy. We arrived early in the morning, and the bird showed beautifully for a couple of hours, before we returned to Røst the same evening. A truly great experience!

At Røst, two of the Taiga Bean Geese (taigasædgås) were still around at the start of the week, joining a couple of Greylag Geese (grågås)

A group of Northern Pintails (stjertand) have also been present the last weeks.

Ringing has not been very good due to windy conditions, but a Marsh Warbler (myrsanger) was a nice catch.

A new wave of Northern Wheatears (steinskvett) appeared this week, likely from the Greenland population.

A few Ring Ozels (ringtrost) was seen during the week.

Bramblings (bjørkefink) have been among the most numerous passerines during the week.

Meadow Pipits (heipiplerke) are still present, and every bird has to be checked carefully in our search for more exotic species.

Not many raptors around, but a single Merlin (dvergfalk) is still terrorising the passerines.
